Vantage Administration exam

The last opportunity to take the Vantage Administration Exam will be June 23, 2025. Please be sure to register, schedule and take your exam prior to that date.

Covers features and functionality of Vantage Release 2.2 and the Advanced SQL Engine through release 17.05.

The Administration Exam establishes that the candidate has the knowledge and skills of a Vantage Administrator that are necessary relating to Monitoring Vantage, Performance Management, Security Management and Auditing, User Administration, Database Management and Workload Management and Integration necessary to monitor Vantage. The Vantage Administration certification does not expire.

CREDENTIALS
Successful completion of this exam will earn you a Vantage Administration certification with a digital badge.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE
The audience for this exam are cloud administrators, DBAs, DevOps, IT Operators, developers, architects, data engineers, database administrators, Application DBAs, and others seeking to advance careers. We would expect the successful candidate to have 2-3 years of Vantage Administration experience and 1+ years of Vantage Administration on the cloud experience.

DURATION
This exam allows 105 minutes for answering exam questions whether you are testing in a Pearson Vue test center or with a remote proctor. 

PREREQUISITES
There are no prerequisites for the Administration Exam.

MONITORING VANTAGE - 12%
Focuses on, based on scenarios, identifying the process for setting up and administering a Viewpoint or monitored system, identifying the Viewpoint portlet used to investigate or remediate a system condition as well as the system resources that are constrained. Also includes identifying how to use Viewpoint to monitor data movement jobs as well as to monitor queries that access external data.

SECURITY MANAGEMENT AND AUDITING - 9%
Focuses on, identifying features, functionalities and benefits of access logging and advanced security configurations, privilege considerations, security configurations for accessing external data and using system log tables based on scenarios.

DATABASE MANAGEMENT - 17%
Focuses on, based on scenarios, identifying access rights, types of privileges, actions needed after an unplanned system restart, optimal backup and restore strategies, and future capacity requirements. Also addresses access rights, logging characteristics, effects on a user session of changing a global parameter, features and implications of advanced data types, and the methods and processes to manage and monitor perm, temp and spool space.

INTEGRATION - 12%
Focuses on, based on scenarios, database objects and performance implications when accessing NOS, foreign servers and using Data Mover. Also addresses the benefits, features and functionality of QueryGrid, NOS and Data Mover.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT - 23%
Focuses on, based on scenarios, identifying statistical and indexing strategies, logging options and data, metrics for performance issues, resolving blocking conditions, remediation of queries, and assigning tables to hash maps. Also includes identifying lock usage and implications, performance implications related to design options and data performance considerations.

USER ADMINISTRATION - 9%
Focuses on, based on scenarios, how to meet user security and proxy user requirements and the attributes that should be set for a new user. Also addresses identifying the features, functionally and benefits of profiles.

WORKLOAD MANAGEMENT - 18%
Focuses on, based on scenarios, identifying TASM features, how to use classification criteria, filters, throttles, exceptions, managing utilities with workload management. Also addresses given scenarios, using the state matrix and identifying workload management methods and prioritization as well as identifying how to management workloads accessing external data and how to manage advanced analytics workloads.
