Presto - A Powerful SQL Engine for Hadoop and More!

Presto is an open source distributed SQL query engine designed for running interactive analytic queries against data sources of all sizes.  Through a single query, Presto allows you to access data where it lives, including in Hadoop, Amazon S3, Apache Cassandra™, relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL and PostgreSQL or even proprietary data stores.  Presto was created by Facebook for the analytics needs of data-driven organizations.

Presto is a perfect fit with the Teradata Unified Data Architecture™ (UDA), an integrated analytical ecosystem for our enterprise customers. With Presto companies can leverage standard ANSI SQL to execute interactive queries against Hadoop and other data sources. Using the fast, scalable open source Presto query engine, together with Teradata QueryGrid connector for Presto, customers can execute queries that originate in Teradata Integrated Data Warehouse (IDW) and join data within the IDW and Hadoop.

The Teradata Commitment to Presto

In recent years Teradata contributed development resources to Presto, delivering major improvements including LDAP support, Kerberos support, improved software installation, improved monitoring and management, support for ODBC/JDBC drivers, ecosystem integration, and BI tools certifications. Presto continues to be an integral part of the Teradata UDA strategy. In conjunction with Teradata QueryGrid, Presto provides customers fast, scalable access to a wide range of data sources. In 2017, Teradata continued this commitment to Presto by partnering with Starburst Data, the first independent software vendor dedicated to Presto support and development. Teradata will continue to provide customers with enterprise-class Presto releases from Starburst, as well as an option for 24x7 global support.
